A Big Thank-You From Tony Cox, First Vice-Chief

I would like to thank you all for a great Ordeal. I could not have done it without you. Thank You Mr. Pratt, Geoff Draper, Adrian K., Ricky T., John R., Patrick G., Alex S., and Joey R. for being elangomats. Nate D. for being Head Elangomat. Thank you so much Mr. Little and cooking staff for yet another absolutely amazing feast. Thank you Ted Kabaservice for the awesome donation of an Echo weed eater and 3 swing blades, it definitely helped clean out that canal. Thank you Dylan B. and Mrs. Hall and your ceremonialists for some top-notch ceremonies. Thank you Tyler for helping me put this on and thinking up the idea for the PARTY LOT. Thank you Amy, Matt, and Doug, for rocking registration. Thank you staff for being able to be there and helping wherever it was needed. You know who you are. I cannot thank you all enough for the work you put into this weekend, it defiantly showed. I hope to see you all there next year.

Cub Scout Service

Very soon Webelos Woods is going to be held at Ais Hammock, and, as usual, it looks to be a great success. Being the good scouts that we Order of the Arrow members are, we are going to help out at the weekend by providing ceremonies for the arrow of light presentations and crossovers on January 26, 2008. We are hoping for both of them to be great. A big thanks goes out to troop 509 for helping staff the entire event, it wouldn’t be possible without you. However, on the cubbie note, we need volunteers to help with the Arrow of Light ceremonies during the months of February and March. We need you desperately. If you know anything about the crossover ceremony, please contact Dylan, the ceremonies chairman, or just show up at any of our Thursday night meetings and ask around. Even if you have no prior experience, we can teach you. It’s very easy and rewarding. Again, contact the ceremonies chairman for more info.

A Gathering of the Clans

The Call-Out weekend went off without a hitch this year, as usual. Thanks mostly to the wonderful staff present at the camp, everything was run as smoothly as could be expected all weekend. The theme for the weekend was Scottish and most of the staff members showed up wearing kilts and matching plaid sashes. It all started out with the arrival of the troops followed by a Friday night campfire show put on by the Astatula Staff. That evening they all gathered together to enjoy a movie in the pavilion. The following day was packed full of activities such as a Damsel in Distress event where the scouts would swim out to save a “Damsel” in the middle of the lake then hurry her to safety. Also included in the festivities was a Water-Carrying Relay and then a Chariot (Sled) race. All troops enthusiastically participated and fought for the spirit award. Saturday night found the troops eagerly awaiting the Call-Out Ceremony. The ceremony was conducted with dignity and included the awesome Estiotee Drumming Team. Saturday evening there was a potluck dinner or “a Gathering of the Clans.” This was a weekend where all of the troops in our district could come together in fellowship. Later on that night another movie was showed in the pavilion and the Brotherhood ceremony saw 17 new Brotherhood members. Sunday morning everybody packed up and got out in a timely manner, taking their 51 new Ordeal candidates back home. We wish the candidates good luck in the upcoming ordeal.

Climbing Wall a Big Hit at the Call-Out

At this past Call-Out Weekend, there were many fun and exciting activities, among them were saving the damsel in distress, eating haggis, and the Braveheart style ultimate Frisbee event. However, standing out apart from all of these was the climbing wall supplied by DC Padgett. DC hauled the scaffolding structure climbing wall out to Camp Oklawaha for the Chapter’s use. Make sure you thank him for his hard work and dedication for making and staffing the climbing wall for the enjoyment of the scouts. The climbing wall provided hours of entertainment for scouts and Order members alike. Everybody had a blast climbing up to the top of the tower, ringing the “snakes neck” and then repelling back down again to do it all again. Matthew C., Blane D. and Alex S. in fact spent almost the whole day there climbing the wall again and again and ensuring that scouts were able to enjoy the event safely. We hope to have this wonderful event present next year. Thanks again to DC!

Tipisa Native American Weekend

Does everyone remember the Astatula Native American Weekend? Well if you don’t remember, it was an event put on by our Chapter to teach Native American dance, drumming, craft, and ceremony. Now, Tipisa Lodge is adopting the theme of our weekend and calling it the Tipisa Native American Weekend. Let’s show our support and get all of our chapter members to attend the TNAW on February 1-3, 2008 at Camp La-No-Che. There should be promotional material coming out soon. Look for it in the next issue of The Nimat.
